Like most forms of entertainment, pantomime stories wax and wane in popularity. Rewind a few decades and the most popular titles were ‘The Babes In The Wood’, ‘Mother Goose’, ‘Sleeping Beauty’, ‘Ali Baba And The Forty Thieves’ and ‘Robinson Crusoe’.
Nowadays the top titles – in no particular order – are ‘Cinderella’, ‘Aladdin’, ‘Snow White And The seven Dwarfs’, Dick Whittington and ‘Jack And The Beanstalk’. These are perhaps amongst the most well-known titles and are the ones that most professional productions tend to stick to at the present time. Although some newer panto titles are being put on by several independent professional theatres.
Most amateur panto groups on the other hand are more than happy to try something a little bit more modern, such as ‘Beauty And The Beast’ ‘Rapunzel A Tangled Panto’, ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, or ‘Alice In Wonderland’. And many are willing to try completely original stories, such as ‘Space Wars’, ‘Bunfight At The OK Corral’ and ‘Little panto of Horrors’.
Luckily, we at Limelight Scripts cater for all tastes and offer traditional pantomimes, modern pantomimes and something that little bit different. For your convenience we have placed them in categories named ‘CLASSIC’ – ‘MODERN’ – ‘DIFFERENT’ so, please have a browse through our extensive pantomime scripts catalogue and we’re sure that you’ll find something there to tickle your fancy.
Although the modern pantomime show is thought of as a particularly British institution, with still over ninety five percent of overall pantomime productions taking place in the UK, surprisingly, the record for the longest ever run of a panto production is held by the Olympic Theatre in New York in the United States. A production of ‘Humpty Dumpty’ there ran for 943 performances between 1868 and 1873, becoming the longest-running pantomime show in history. And incredible run which we doubt will ever be surpassed.
