We are pleased to announce that a new title has just been added to our long list of brilliant pantomime scripts. ‘The Pied Piper Of Hamelin.’ A rattling tale of greed, deception and good versus evil. A traditional panto written in a modern style.
THE LEGEND OF THE PIED PIPER FAIRY TALE.
Once upon a time, long, long, ago, there was a small German town, called Hamelin. Hamelin was overrun with rats, so overrun that there were hundreds more rats than people! Rats in every shape, size, and colour were everywhere! Whatever the townsfolk tried to do to get rid of them only succeeded making the problem worse.
It got so bad that the Mayor of Hamelin held a town meeting about the rat infestation. Someone suggested cats would eat the rats, so the mayor told everyone to starve their cats. But cats were no match for the sheer volume of rats in the town, and soon even they became afraid of them!
The Mayor then promised ten bags of gold to anyone who was able to rid Hamelin of their huge rat population. People came from far and wide, as word spread of this generous bounty. Many tried in vain to rid the town of rats to get those bags of gold, but still no one could help the troubled town. Then, one day, a stranger in colourful clothes, and a hat with a single feather in it, came to Hamelin and introduced himself as the Pied Piper.
The Grimm Brother’s fairy tale may or may not be loosely based on actual events, but our version is strictly based on pantomime tradition. Starring Gisela, a greedy ex-witch who yearns for a luxurious lifestyle. A gullible Pied Piper named Peter, who owns a magical flute. Two idiotic comic villains, Frank and Furter. Dame Stella Strudel who runs the local deli with her daft son Otto. Plus a love interest between the dame’s sensible son Hans, and Mayor Klaus Kringle’s beautiful daughter Ingrid. So, expect lots of fun and nonsense, complete with traditional slapstick comedy.
