It’s going to be one of those boring fairy tales, isn’t it? |

Can you do any better? |

Narrator 2 |
Yes. Once upon a time there was a desert island with palm trees…. |

Narrator 1 |
And a castle with a tower where a beautiful princess lived. |

Narrator 2 |
I knew it! |

Narrator 1 |
The king and queen loved her very much. |
|
Action switches to the King and Queen . |
|

Queen |
You know, I love our little princess very much. |

King |
I was just going to say the same thing. |
|
Queen |
But what shall we call her? |
|
King |
She is so precious. |

Queen |
Our little treasure. |

King |
That is it! That is what we will call her! Treasure! |

Narrator 2 |
You can’t call a princess Treasure! |

Narr 1 |

(holds up hands) Okay. |

Scene Two |

The Castle |
|
|
The tower on the island. Narrators 3&4 come to position. Treasure takes her place on the tower, with the King and Queen near her. |

Narrator 3 |
The princess Treasure grew up to be beautiful. |
|
Narrator 4 |
She had everything that she needed, except one thing. |
|
Narrator 3 |
She had no-one to play with, for no-one else lived on the island. |
|
Narrator 4 |
Hold on – I just saw all those dancers! |
|
Narrator 3 |
They’re only part-time. |
|
Narrator 4 |
Oh. |
|
Narrator 3 |
So, the Princess Treasure didn’t have any friends. |
|
Narrator 4 |
Everyone go ‘aaah’. |
|
Audience |
Aaah. |
|
Narrators 3 & 4 exit. The action switches to the King, Queen and Treasure. |

King |
What shall we do? |

Queen |
Our little Treasure is so lonely. |

King |
She stays in her tower all day. |
|
Music no. 2 – Treasure’s Lament |

Treasure |
(sadly) What can I do?When there’s nothing to do, When there’s no one to play with at all? It’s lonely, it’s sad, Building castles in sand, And the sea is just making me blue. Treasure wanders lonely around the island during the instrumental. Can I just have one dayWhere friends come to play? Can I just have one day like that? Only one day of fun Where there’s more than just one. And there’s no reason to feel so sad. She acts out the verse. Here’s what to do,I will try something new, Write a message to bring them to me, ‘Help won’t you come And be friends with me’ Signed ‘Treasure’ and sent out to sea. |

Luckily, the mermaids who lived around the island felt sorry for the Princess. They took her message and carried it far out to sea. |

The Ocean |
|
|
The castle set could be concealed using blue fabrics to simulate waves. Narrators 7 & 8 come to position . |

Now it just so happened that there were a band of Pirates nearby. |
|
Narrator 8 |
Which one played the lead guitar? |
|
Narrator 7 |

In the band. |

I’m not even answering that. Watch out, here they come. |

The Pirates enter, carrying their’ship’ as the music begins. |

So, the pirates were busy minding their own business when suddenly the first mate saw the bottle. |

First mate |
I can see a bottle! |

Narrator 8 |
So they decided to drop a net and bring it on board. |

Pirate 1 |
Let’s drop a net and bring it on board. |
|
Narrator 7 |
And then they took it to the Captain, a fierce man called Black Patch Jack! |

Pirate 2 |
Let’s take it to the Captain…(pause) |

Narrator 8 |
Well, where’s the rest? |
|
Pirate 2 |
Oh, yeah. Let’s take it to the Captain, he’s a fierce man called Black Patch Jack! |

Narrator 7 |
They wanted to know why…oh look, there’s no point in us both saying it. Let’s go. |

Narrators 7 & 8 exit. |

Pirate 3 |
Why did you tell us his name? |

Pirate 4 |
No-one says that name and lives to tell the tale. |

Pirate 2 |
I wasn’t telling tales, his name is Black Patch Jack. |

First mate |
Aarh, will you stop that! Captain? |

Patch comes over . |

First mate |
We’ve got a bottle. |

Patch |
It’s no use without glasses. |
|
First mate |
Aye. But it has a message inside. |

They pull out the message. |
|

Pirate 4 |
(reads) ‘Help, won’t you come and be friends with me - Treasure.’ |

Pirates |
Treasure! |
|
First mate |
It’s a treasure map! |
|
Patch |
Aye, that it is. Let us go and get it then. Hoist the sail! |

Pirates |
Aye, aye Captain! |
